I typed all this up in a comment thread, and thought I'd put it out there for everyone. How I use REW and Equalizer APO to create FIR filters.

My situation is a good fit for FIR filters. I use them on the system in my man cave. I'm pretty much the only person in here, so I set it up to be perfect in my recliner. Now, laying back the recliner does change things. However, it's not a huge change. When I'm doing serious listening, of course, I don't recline.

When I watch shows, I can't notice any asynchronicity between the sound and the mouths moving. My delay using two FIR filters is about 0.1 milliseconds in 4 seconds. The filters use 1.4% of one CPU core on an old AMD 8320 chip. I don't play games very often, and when I do, they tend to be old games. So, I don't notice the CPU usage. I am using more than 10 filter taps, but my shit is tight and flat, with a little coloration I added after everything was set.

I started off just using IIR filters, eventually tried FIR and decided the improvement in sound quality was worth it. Playing James Blakes' "Limit To Your Love," for example, is a much better experience, now. If those pulses aren't perfectly in sync between the bookshelves and sub, it's noticeable.
