Why is Ubuntu a pain in my case?

As others have mentioned, you ought to supply some more information. Specifically, which version of Ubuntu? Which kernel? Have you installed any proprietary drivers?

Type this in a terminal to find out your kernel:

uname -r

  • The Display is lagging.
  • Howdy Face Recognition almost never works at all.
  • Touchpad Gestures do not work
  • No kinetic scrolling in Ubuntu

That all seems kernel related. You're on a 10th gen i7, which is fairly recent. The kernel Ubuntu uses might not be patched for the newer hardware on your device, although it may well be patched on the bleeding-edge. If you bail on Ubuntu, then Manjaro could be a good fit for you, as the kernel will be newer, or at least updated sooner. Before distro-hopping though, I suggest installing the proprietary drivers that Ubuntu recommends.

It could very well be the nouveau driver struggling with your newer chipset. In which cased something like this might help.

  • When starting Chrome I get an error message.

This seems to be most likely a corrupted install, but it could be a myriad of reasons, even poorly seated RAM. It's certainly not default Linux behaviour.

  • It boots at least 10 seconds longer.
  • Apps take longer to start in general

Again, likely a result of missing firmware/kernel patches.
