It is an optional upgrade but dell charges more for basic upgrades than they are worth. It's much more cost effective to just upgrade the components yourself if you have the ability to do so. In example to upgrade to the 256gb nvme it's a $80 upgrade, and there is no telling what grade / type nvme they actually give you. you can get a much better nvme cheaper yourself. Memory is similar story, adding another 8gb stick is $100.

I did go ahead and get the 1000w power supply and the liquid cooling option as those aren't as easy to upgrade and worthwhile.

If it's a deal breaker i think i have a cheap 256gb nvme laying around somewhere i can install and load windows on.
