We used to get big yellow books delivered to our houses that doxed everyone in town.

Were you not alive then or did you just have a lot of trouble with maps?

I was both alive & both of my parents had degrees in Cartography so no I didn’t have trouble with maps.

However, the general city maps which were available in those days didn’t do a great job when it came to residential neighborhoods; they just didn’t have the resolution & often didn’t include (or didn’t have room to name) smaller streets & rural areas? Forget about it.

There were books of detailed maps (usually one book covering a single county) which did adequately cover the area (the largest publisher od such books in the US, was the aforementioned Thomas Brothers) but outside of real estate agents, utility & service vehicles, such books weren’t super common.
