"Van Jones: How can liberals dig out? Answer: Drop the Identity Politics! It is a losing game. Liberty is about individuals not groups."

This is a very elementary view of political history in America. First of all, the moral outrage in the 80s and 90s wasn't entirely a "religious right" issue like it is so often repeated. For example, the push for bans against violence in video games in the 90s was started by Al Gore's wife. Also, Bernie supporters did not vote Trump. Some more centrist ones may have, but Bernie's movement was driven by socialists and free stuffers, they would have no reason to support Trump. Without numbers, it's foolish to assume there was much of a liberal support base to Trump, and if there was, I have a hunch they were whites which is not a group the left is interested in persuading in an identity politics fashion. And I've already established in other posts that they don't have to. In 20 years, white people will no longer win elections. If the left continues to appeal to the identity of non-whites, they will win as soon as non-whites are a majority. It's as simple as that. But you're right, it's a complex game. The right will soon learn they also need to appeal to the identity of minorities, and that will keep them in play. Individualism will not keep the Right in the game. The push back that got Trump elected was the last stand against the identity politics appealing to minorities, the last stand of individualism if you will. The Trump movement will continue to grow, he will be reelected another term, I'm counting on it. But in 8 years the demographics of America will be much different and politics is going to be a whole new game.
