Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews bans fracking.

Well, considering Australia actually has incredibly stringent requirements built to protect our environment, which are if anything overzealous and in direct response to a rather ignorant combination of public opinion and media influenced fear mongering.

Worked for AGL for a little while for the chief economist. It's pretty insane how ignorant public opinion is when it comes to this industry, though I guess most people feel the same way about their own fields of expertise. It's sand and water; not contaminating chemicals like in other parts of the world.

Again to reiterate; Australian regulations are by in large excellent. 0 cases of fracking related environmental damage in Australia. Still interested to see what the CSIRO might find in 20 years which is nothing in the scheme of things; I don't disagree with the moratorium, I think that fracking is a waste of an investment considering the age of renewables is around the corner but hey there are really only a handful of people in the world qualified to actually make any informed opinions when it comes to what is the right thing to do.

If you can understand the serious science, economic factors and legal frameworks for infrastructural projects like this (which takes decades of experience) then OK I'll listen to what that expert has to say. So far every person I've known who has that kind of knowledge does not have the same reservations I or any other idiot granted the power to vote might when it comes to this so it's probably fine really.
