Volunteering at a night shelter

Our night shelter was not occupied by families or other generally law abiding members of the public who happened to find themselves rough sleeping due to unforseen circumstances, it was full of drug dependent people who are commonly referred to as crack heads and junkies. There were fights at the shelter, sexual assaults and countless other incidents of theft and public order. The smell was terrible. If you have any local knowledge, you'll see wanted people. You'll end up having to brief it. If the clientele finds out your Job, you could be in trouble. Whilst the local homeless charity I work closely with are very pro Police, like others have mentioned, some arent. I don't believe PSD would be very supportive. My role is mainly dealing with the Street Community, I enjoy my role, I can't imagine anything worse than dealing with them off duty.
