WARNING: ThinkPad P1 BIOS 1.17 - Do not disable on-board devices in the BIOS

OP Thank you so much! I just ordered a X1 extreme last night. The reviews all seemed good. Until I came across issues users ran into when attempting to install linux Mint or Ubuntu... Seemed to be a recurring theme of bricking these systems. I did come across a thread saying that the latest bios update solved this issue. However after talking to Lenovo Tech support and Sales departments I discovered that Lenovo does not have any support for Linux and that their warranties would not cover a bricked system if a linux install was the issue. Even if it was because of their bios.

You just saved me a lot of headache and $$$$.

Will be holding off on purchasing until I get more feedback from the thinkpad community on if this issue has truly been resolved.

Learning programming and currently using a Asus netbook I got for $60 a few black fridays ago and a raspberry pi I picked up from microcenter.

I currently want to get out of my slave trade gig job and go into a career where I'm working to live not vice versa. Decided to take the plunge into studying and working on programming full time and need a reliable machine that will not brick just because I put linux on it.

I see others using linux on other thinkpad models with nothing but praise on how reliable these machines are..

I am enrolling in a coding bootcamp that I will be doing 12 hours a day Mon - Fri and 16 hours on Saturdays. For the next six months.

Should I just forget about installing linux leave the bios alone and get a thinkpad X1 E or P1 anyways?

I dont necessarily need to screw with the bios for full stack development. Just a reliable workhorse to help me improve my quality of living.

New to thinkpads but I have two software developers in my family who both told me to get a thinkpad.

Do not want to thread Jack... so please feel free to DM any recommendations....

Once again though OP...

Thank you for making this issue more widely known!
