What are some factions or races in your world that would usually fulfill and evil or good stereotype, but are actually the opposite?

This is more or less one of the central themes of my Baharra setting. Not so much in the "subverting tropes for the sake of subverting tropes" kind of way, more just because it makes sense in the context of the setting. Some examples:

Islas du Sanguinari is an island city-state run by a sect of vampires, where mortal citizens pay a blood tax in place of monetary taxes. It also happens to be a world leader in liberal democracy and civil protections for its citizens. The vampires follow a philosophy known as the Shepherd's Way, summed up by the mantra "From wolf, to shepherd". They believe that the only way they can survive as a species in the modern day is to earn the trust and cooperation of mortalkind, without coercion or deception. Biting and feeding directly on a mortal is the only crime punishable by death. They defend this trust with a zeal bordering on paranoia, training the world's best teams of vampire hunters to seek out and destroy any rogue vampires who revert back to the old predatory ways.

The Chorus is a hive minded species of fungal symbiote that infects sentient beings to form a communal consciousness. They rule the Choirlands as an almost deific being, revered and almost worshiped by the independent minds who live under Their care. However, the Chorus deeply respects the free will and self-determination of those living in Their nation, infecting and bringing in new host minds only when they fully consent. The Chorus truly loves the independent mortals under Their rule, as these people are Their children, Their parents, Their grandparents, Their spouses, Their friends, and so on. They know every person by name, and never hesitates to offer love and guidance.

There are plenty of other examples of these sorts of subverted expectations, though it's like 4am and I need to stop writing.
