Years ago I cut the tendons in three of my fingers right in half. The doctor prescribed my OxyContin 30mg to start. Every week I saw him he kept increasing my dose as you build up a tolerance to opioids quickly. I eventually was on 160mg of OxyContin a day. One day I got to my meeting and he tells me it’s time to stop taking the pain meds as it had been almost a year of taking them. He cut of my indefinitely. No taper, nothing. I had the worst withdrawals and sought pills out illegally. I was never warned about the intense withdrawal these pills would put me through. Once OxyContin became our lawed in Canada for a while the pill supply dried up and became extremely expensive. After that I turned to heroin. That was when I was 18, I’m 23 and still addicted to heroin. THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THE OPIATE CRISIS.
