What is the difference of jobs with 38 hour week vs 40 hour week?

I guess it's safe to assume you're not belgian?

There are two large legal categories of employees in private industries: bedienden and arbeider, which will most easily translate to white collar desk jobs with low physical risk and blue collar workers with physical strain, there are some differences between the two when it comes to sick leave, leave due to weather, pension and mostly overtime. Arbeiders can choose to recover their overtime or get paid for it (contractually chosen but usually pretty much decided by the employer), bedienden can not. You work your hours and get paid. In more career jobs you usually put in over hours and see it as an investment in your future (WITHIN REASON), some employers understand workload fluctuates and will be flexible if you worked a 60 hour week and say you'll be taking a bit more easy the week after but they're not obligated to.
