What exactly do you collect?

I collect A LOT of things. I´m not looking for the first editions or something valuable, so my collection might not be worth that much (it´s still pretty valuable if someone wanted to buy it, there are gems in there) but to me it´s everything. I collect mostly a genre that is specific to Iceland, it´s difficult to find a good name for it (I found one a while ago but I´ve lost it again) but it´s sort of a mix of history, folklore and true stories. This genre dominated Iceland in the 19th century and it´s still going strong today. People from all walks of life told their stories, and every tiny village or even a farmstead has a bunch of these books tied to it. It´s called "þjóðlegur fróðleikur" in Icelandic, which translates as "national knowledge". I love these books and so do many people so this is a good thing to collect if you are icelandic (we are not lucky enough to have easy access to many first editions or such in other genres or languages but we´re probably among the greatest book lovers in the world, of all time).

I also collect your basic folklore books from around the world, fairy tales and all kinds of what I call "strange lore" which is stuff like mysteries, the occult and conspiracies. I have a lot of those kinds of books.

Well I said I collect a lot (A LOT) of things so to continue I also collect books about religions, especially christianity, Bibles and other holy books and books about cults. And the Icelandic Sagas and Eddas. Then I have collection regarding witchcraft and demonology. And true crime. And history, archaeology etc. (I don´t know how to contain myself obviously, thankfully I live in a huge old house where I can store this insane amount).

I could go on. There are some authors that I love that I like to collect in different editions and languages (that I understand), like Jane Austen, Jules Verne (and quite a few others). And I like to own classics. And I´m building a children´s library with many beautiful and good books by authors like Astrid Lindgren, Enyd Blyton and many, many, many more :)
