Putin using chemical weapons in Ukraine would be NATO game-changer - Duda

Honestly, most of the things you credit the US for were in fact realized by Europe. Have you seen the speech by the German foreign minister in the UN for example?

Although overall the US response has been decent, I think they messed up with the fighter jets. They were perfectly happy for Poland to give the jets to Ukraine, but when Poland wanted to send these MIGs via US airbase, they blinked. This was a costly mistake that signaled to the Ukrainians that we don't have their backs and signaled to Putin that his threats are working.

All of this is not to say that the European response has been that much better. In fact I think many EU politicians are giving them false hope by inviting Zelensky to speak in the EU parliament, to the UK house of commons and by inviting Ukraine to submit a candidate membership. I fear that the sad reality of this war will be that Russia will keep inviting foreign fighters from Syria, Africa and possibly Belarus all the while we will do nothing and will slowly see Ukraine fade away before our eyes. Given that we were never willing to actually commit ourselves to helping them, I think that it would have been better to never allow for serious talks of them joining Western institutions such as the EU and NATO in the first place. Now the Ukrainian population is paying the price.

I feel that
