What made you get into high end headphone audio?

Had Sennheiser HD201's I ran to the ground but never thought much about it. In 2011, I bought fake beats for $60. I thought it was such a steal for awesome sounding headphones so I was happy until I researched it more. I eventually bought the Koss ProDJ100 / TBSE1 then I wanted something more portable so I bought the HD 25-1 II. It all went downhill when I bought a Denon D2000, Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro, Sr125i. I eventually then sold the Koss, the SR125i but I did replace it with an SR60i. After being out of the game for almost two years, I decided to upgrade again. I got a second hand LCD-2.1 for $600 from a friend which I think is my intro to high-end audio. I went on a trip with my IM50's from Audio Technica and I got to try the LCD-X, HD800 during that trip. It sparked my interest in audio again as I felt like the LCD-2.1 was really dark. It's such a shame to listen to amazing instruments and the vocals being so distant and dull. I admit, I still miss the LCD-2 but if I were to go back to Audeze, it'd definitely be with an LCD-X. Upon selling the LCD-2, I sold my amp at that time as well. I've had countless of amps before including several of the FiiO stuff, iBasso D-Zero, Aune T1, O2/ODAC, Schiit Magni/Modi and some obscure ones like the Total Bithead. My IEM game was pretty strong as well. Went from Shure SE215's to Havi B3 Pro I's to Audio-Technica IM50's to my current VSONIC GR07 CE. Even went through a lot of different DAPs like an android phone, FiiO X1, and now an iBasso DX50.

Since I ranted for so long, here's a TLDR version of my audio journey.

  • Headphones = HD201 > Fake Beats Studio > TBSE1 > HD 25-1 II > D2000 > SR125i > DT 990 Pro > LCD-2.1 > HE-400i = Alpha Dogs
  • Amplifier = Topping TP30 > uDac 2 > Fiio E7 > Fiio E17 > Fiio E9 > Total Bithead > Aune T1 > Fiio E12 > Magni > O2 > D-Zero > NFB 15.32 = Magni 2 Uber
  • DAC = Modi
  • IEM =
  • DAP =

TBC............. will edit later.
