[Meta] What is the threshold of acceptability for posting rumors on this sub? And when does a rumor become news?

Correct, but please read the rest of the post.

  • This is a tabloid/non-relevant post. For the purposes of this rule, who discusses the topic is irrelevant if the topic is, itself, unrelated to football. In this case, this is about Dez's personal life. More on that in the next point.
  • This falls under off-the-field drama. The only information available about a potential video is that it refers to activities off the field. Since it has yet to have any impact on his on-the-field status, and remains unaddressed directly by the NFL, a team, Dez Bryant, or any major site, this falls squarely on the rule regarding off-the-field drama.

We would like to avoid this escalating into the same kind of situation as happened with Colin Kaepernick last year. Until a rumor has some substantiation, we would like to err on the side of caution, to avoid smearing the name of a player unnecessarily.

From the Posting Guidelines

>* Duplicates

>Please check if a story has already been posted before submitting. If you have links that add new information, please add them as comments in the original thread. This also applies to other varieties of duplicates, such as self post questions that are overly similar.

>* Tabloid/Non-relevant Posts

>We've decided to treat news about former players the same as we treat news about current players, whereas previously we were stricter on posts about former players. We've also attempted to more clearly outline what types of posts we will allow and not allow about NFL figures in general.

>We've decided that we won't allow posts about divorces, engagements, marriages, who's dating who, or things like pictures from the club last night. We're a football forum, not a celebrity gossip forum.

>* Articles/Quotes from NFL Analysts on off-the-field issues

>We will allow articles that dissect on-the-field performance, potential roster changes, etc. but have decided we will not allow articles about off-the-field drama

>The reason we're disallowing posts on off-the-field drama is because everyone and their mother has something to say about what occurs off the field. We don't need 10 different articles posted with different opinions on the same subject, because it becomes redundant. In this regard, the opinion of a talking head really has no more credence than an individual user's, and inevitably there will be a thread posted where a users either posts an opinion on the topic or asks for an opinion. These articles should be confined to that thread. Just because Stephen A. Smith is louder doesn't mean he's more important. If you have an article that you read on a subject and agree with, make a self post and provide your reasoning for agreeing with that article, linking to it in there. But, again, we don't need posts from every different talking head about their opinion on a situation.

If and when something happens that modifies these circumstances, a post will be allowed. These include, but are not limited to:

  • A formal statement by the NFL, Dallas Cowboys, or Dez Bryant.
  • A credible tie-in to Dez Bryant's on-the-field status.
  • Evidence of something which could impact on-the-field status.
  • A new development in the story, which qualifies as its own topic.
  • Coverage by any major news organization in sports.

We hope that by providing the explanation for the removal, we will be able to alleviate any concerns related to this issue. We promise that should there be a development, it will be allowed through.

We're just as eager to have this sorted out as you all are.
