What is the most advanced MUD?

Perhaps Avalon RPG (www.avalon-rpg.com)

  • Four player-run city states with individual governments, princes, barons, ministers, territory, buildings and armies.

  • Ruthless open world pvp where players can be ambushed almost anywhere, and with thousands of skills, fast-paced action and hundreds of herbs, poisons, runes and potions, the combat in Avalon is arguably one of the best.

  • Legion warfare with great emphasis on intellect and tactics - this time, not lame 'strategy games', instead warfare in Avalon is conducted between cities for control of villages scattered throughout the land, which will give wealth and expand the city's sphere of influence. Think mortars, line of sight, trenches, arrows, equipment, forts, pigeon dispatches, oil cauldrons and much more.

  • Massive economic metagame, where almost all commodities are produced manually through the "labours" and "farming" skills, which include abilities such as mining, logging trees, making omelettes, panning for gold and even milking cows! There are playershops as well!

  • Thousands of quests ranging from 'find me an item' quests to bigger quests known as "deeds" such as bringing about the White Blessing/Black Curse, followed by huge, multiple-stage game-changing "feats" such as completing the Long Night ritual, which brings magical darkness all over the land and restricts use of certain skills.

  • GemQuests are held every few months, usually pitting Avalon's top combatants against each other in gruelling pvp. Winner takes home a special gem, or in the case of the Amethyst GemQuest, ascends to godhood.

The list of features is extremely long and I'd suggest you take a look at the Avalon website at www.avalon-rpg.com for a more comprehensive guide. Or, better still, play the game itself.

Connect via Avalon's custom client at www.avalon-rpg.com/lumiere, or via telnet/other clients at avalon-rpg.com::23 Personally I'd recommend using other clients though.
