What movies have you watched this week?

The Town (2010)- A great film turned good by a weak and unsatisfying ending. For the most part I really enjoyed it; the heists were tense and very well put together and I enjoyed most of the performances especially Jeremy Renners'. But again my dislike of the ending sours my taste for the film. 7/10

Doubt (2008) - An excellent film with powerhouse performances by some of my favorite actors. Dealt with the subject matter in a really delicate and mature way without skirting the issue. It leaves enough up to interpretation while remaining satisfying in its conclusion. Excellent film. 9/10

Adaption (2002)- I loved the premise and Nic Cage was a really pleasant surprise with his performance. Goes totally off the rails although I suspect that was part of the idea. Surprisingly funny, not Jonze/Kaufman's best work but still a good watch. 7/10

A Clockwork Orange (1971)- I still don't know how I feel about this, may require further viewings. Maybe I'm missing the point but parts seem quite sneering and hateful towards this caricature of the working class. Usually I like a hateful/ deeply flawed main character but Alex seemed so ridiculously evil that it a bit too much. For now 6/10.

Riot Club (2014)- A decent film with an idea I thought they could have done more with. I think it meandered a bit and lost focus at points but overall I think it did a better job protarying a lavish but dangerous lifestyle without glorifying it than a lot of other films I've seen deal with similar themes, maybe even better than Clockwork Orange. Overall it was ok but I'm not going to recommend it to anyone. 6/10

The Kings of Summer (2013)- Thought I would just stick it on as something light for a Sunday night but I ended up quite enjoying it. Much funnier than I expected and featured some great cameos. Although it brought about one great scene the romance subplot was a little weak and the conflicts felt a little forced for the sake of conflict. A surprisingly enjoyable film that for the most part was a good watch. 7/10
