What's really going on in this sub? How representative is this sub of the average law school applicant and is the advice actually helpful?

I am a regular lurker on this subreddit who has a low LSAT score and a pretty decent GPA. I have other qualifications that got me into a T1 school that I wanted to go to. According to all the advice on this subreddit, I should retake the LSAT and/or reconsider going to law school.

I think there's a lot of valid and useful information in this sub. However, the way it is presented is not ideal for discussion. Instead of focusing on whether someone should or should not go to law school, a better discussion would be to consider what it takes to go to law school and provide people with the information to make an informed decision. For example, if someone says, "I have a 155 on my LSAT and 3.5 GPA, do I have to retake to get into X school?", most people here say, "Yes", some even go to the extent of asking, "Are you sure you want to go to law school" and such. Instead, if people recognize that there are a number of other things that OP may not have said that might be useful to give better advice, it may not only help OP, but also others in similar situations. Questions like, "what are your options for paying for school?", "what do you plan on doing for living expenses during law school?", "do you know what field of law you want to practice?", "what are your job expectations after graduation?", "what else do you have going for you that may help your situation?", "what exactly are your softs?". With answers to questions like this, people may be able to provide better information. Everyone here says only LSAT and GPA matters and nothing else. LSAT and GPA are very important, but there are other factors that may help get someone to where they want to go.

Instead of making the decision for OP or be discouraging, asking OP to prioritize factors that should be taken into consideration when deciding to go to law school may be a better approach. One man's opinion.
