When I chose DINOSAUR for my major form I didn't expect a puppy sized skittering raptor that scratches its face with its foot

"doesn't look very scary. More like a six-foot turkey."

Yeah real Raptors were relatively small. What Jurassic Park calls a Velociraptor is closer to a Deinonychus in reality.

Not super apropos, but in recent dinosaur news there's apparently a very real debate going on now over whether Deinonychus IS "a 6 foot turkey".

It gets complicated, but the way I learned it "Aves" (the birds) were defined cladistically as anything more closely related to archaeopteryx than to deinonychus which at the time seemed pretty logical and all.

But science marches on and now things have gotten way more muddy to the point that there's apparently a real argument that says "in order to place Archaeopteryx in Aves you would need to put all Troodontids or even the Dromaeosauridae in there as well"...

...which in fact WOULD make velociraptor and deinonychus "turkeys" (aves).
