Xela recommendations

So you're going to xela to eat and visit bars and supermarkets?

The outdoor markets are pretty cool. I don't see the hype around visiting bars though or sushi or even thai places, the states offer 10× better food fare than Guatemala.

Having lived in xela for a year (and doing everything on your list basically) and having been back 6 times in the last 4 years here's my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Lighten your list of bars and restaurants and make room for the "fuentes georginas" over in almolonga. This would be a half day to almost the whole day if you include restaurants. Ask a local taxi to take you and also ask to stop and visit the area where they cultivate the vegetables in almolonga on the way. Also there is a hotel in that area that has the most beautiful areas to take pics at, and it has a great restaurant to eat at to. There are actual mini looking volcanoes on the property where hot geothermal steam comes out of. Trust me. Do the fuentes georginas, it's incredible, take your bathing suit. They natural hot pools at the top of a volcano in the clouds. The water comes straight out of the volcano and is HOT (not unbearable) There is a bar there and the outside air is very cool because you're so far up. It's very jurassic park feeling with the very lush jungle all around you and the misty air.
