He wanted to move on because if he insisted on a several month long investigation, it would have prevented him from taking his seat on the supreme court - aka exactly what was intended with the allegations. You really can't be so daft as to not see that, right?

And - what exactly was the FBI supposed to investigate? They couldn't get any details out of Dr. Ford - so where would they even start?
