It depends on the brand, model, and the size of the kite, and of course, the condition on the gear. It is hard to male a recommendation without these details.

You cannot make a huge mistake with board and straps. But your kite should be an all-around kite (Slingshot Rally, Duotone Evo, Cabrinha Switchblade, etc.). Try to avoid freestyle, and C kites (e.g. Slingshot Fuel or Duotone Vegas).

Most important think is the condition of bar/lines, kite and harness. Your life is attached to them.

A lot of brands give discounts on memorial day, especially on last year's gear. I got an email from Slingshot about it already, I bet other brands are doing it too. You may be able to get a new kite, bar and harness.
