The 94th annual Academy Awards official discussion thread

First impressions: sadly it’s this, The academy condones violence - I doubt anyone walking the red carpet went through a metal detector and The academy doesn’t support free speech. I doubt Jada was off limits for the rules presented to Chris Rock for his performance.

Edit: if any other person had done that, they’d be escorted out. Worse the verbal dialogue with derogatory language disrupting what is allegedly a professional event- that’s just not normal behavior. Making excuses for it is worse.

Then again I’m not a Hollywood star so it’s just my opinion

Edit: regarding Will’s written apology… “Great speech writer except for the fact that he’s still making excuses. . No sincerity at all. Wonder if his parents taught him that. Heck his son’s tweet that effectively if not actuality said, “that’s how we handle things”. Those are their family values.

Edit: u/AnaisKarim has shared . “Wrong. Chris was off script and antagonizing the Smiths after he had begun warned never mention Jada in public again. San Mateo county district attorney Steven Wagstaffe pointed to Rock’s actions”. My impression of academy stands. My statement about rules may be incorrect
