Is this actually how REI hires people? What an insult to my time

This is the 3rd round in the interview process. Having a dozen people complete team exercises is a poor joke at this point and working over a weekend uncompensated should be illegal. Are guides valuable and potentially life saving? Absolutely. Are they treated fairly in the hiring process? No. Are they paid well? No. Do they enjoy appropriate benefits to compensate for the physical harm they do to themselves? Absolutely not. They’re forced to rely on tips from customers which in itself is wrong. Im just complaining about the many difficulties an outdoor guide faces…. A lot of people are talking about how important a guide is and for that reason they should be vetted. This is true and they are. That’s not an excuse to further mistreat a guide. That’s not an excuse to underpay a guide. That’s definitely not an excuse to put the business needs above respiring your employees. Maybe if we cared about the employee opposed to jumping to defend corporations the problem would be solved but by all means please continue to defend these giant corporations.
