Note: Did not read the rules probably. Here's my explanation of the map.

Okay, so the Horn of Africa is not really normal. If you notice, that Ethiopia is the only uncolonised nation in Africa while Somalia is the only homogenous nation in Africa. Even tho Somalia and Ethiopia have a long history together. Modern Day Somalia started to come existence as Dervish State, a Proto-Somali state that unified under nationalism.

Somalia was trying to base itself as nationalistic grounds, try to model itself like European state; with one language, one culture, one religion that would be a modern Somali nation-state because of this Somali monarchies were abolished in the name for Somali-nationalism.

On Ethiopia's side, Ethiopia was ancient empire more ruled by ethnic Amhara, with Amhara language, Christianity and culture imposed on all other ethnic groups in Ethiopia.

Because of Ethiopia held large Somali inhabited territory that Somalia believed it was its rightful ~clay~ land. Because this, Ethio-Somali rivalry leads to destabilization of the Horn.

Ethiopia backed Djibouti independence from joining Somalia in the name of Greater Somalia. There were mutual destabilization, attempted annexation, supporting successionist movements, supporting movements to overthrow the opposing governments and many, many, many, many border wars.

Because of this, Somalia backed Meles Zenawi into power which imposed ethnic federalism (similar to that of Yugoslavia), which weakened Ethiopian unity. While supporting Eritrea independence which made Ethiopia landlocked.

Ethiopia invaded Somalia to overthrow the Islamic Court Union (a confederation of Shari courts of Shafi jurisdiction) that stabilized south-central Somalia, which leads to the creation of Al-Shabaab.

So I asked myself how would Horn of Africa look like if it was balkanised along ethno-religious lines.
