Why do parents who abused their child, pretend they didn't abuse their child when the child is now an adult?

My mom tried beating her religion into me, plus several other abusive "arabic mother" things. As a result, i now despise religion. I could have had faith because all my friends are good believers in christianity, and regardless wether its right or wrong, it makes them really happy, which is something i would love(being happy) . Meanwhile i absolutely cannot come close to religion, i despise its existence(to make people afraid and control them). You dont beat someone into religion, then use it to beat them up emotionally. Now i'm free, my fear is gone, and so is the part where religion dictated my fears. Too bad considering her parents( my grandparents) try to push me back into religion USING FEAR :Ann an, aint gonna work grandma.
