I am a first-year chemical engineering student, and I don’t feel smart enough to do it.

I went through a similar process freshman year. In high school, even in the IB diploma program, I never really had to try to get good grades, they just happened. I’m not trying to brag, that’s the way it was, and it set me up to fail in college. I had no real study habits and couldn’t handle the workload. So my second quarter of freshman year, I took a step back, reassessed my priorities, and implemented drastic changes. No reddit, no TV, no real solo entertainment of any sort for more or less a year. I’d still hang out with friends and go to extracurriculars, but everything I did throughout the day had a purpose. It worked, here I am senior year living the good life of 12 credit hours/quarter.
