Why I Am Kneeling | By Megan Rapinoe

I honestly don't care if they love the United States or not. I won't look down on anyone who lives here and says that they don't and that isn't particularly the issue for me. However in my opinion these individuals mischsracterize and simplify their dislike of institutional racism by saying they don't believe in the country or some other similar analogy. The "United States" isn't oppressing anyone because it's a land mass that sits on top of an ocean. Racial issues are global and caused by humans which is why I think blaming problems on the "United States" is very shallow. No athelete addresses the actual problem by kneeling during the "national" (global problem) anthem and all they're doing, probably unintentionally, is drawing attention to themselves.

How are people supposed to react to this? Do you think more 49ers fans care about Colin or the teams awful record this year? I'm just not buying that it's really that useful to have atheletes, who on the whole probably have the political awareness of the average American, force feed their opinions to the public. Don't you think popular influential people probably play similar roles in continuing racism?
