[Tom Bogert] It should go without saying to just disregard everything a certain anonymous account tweets, but because I’ve gotten a couple texts about it: No, Vancouver did not offer Tristan Blackmon for Ayo Akinola. Please have better media literacy in discerning information.

This is somewhat related, somewhat not related.

But I think as time goes by, we're going to see more and more accounts like Forbes show up over the years.

It's not as prevalent in mainstream sports (at least, not yet), but I see it a lot in eSports. There are a lot of accounts similar to Forbes that leak roster moves and the sort and tweet about them and get things right.

Hell we're even seeing a twitter account that's getting a decent amount of plot points right about the MCU (movies and/or TV shows) before they even come out now.

I think what frustrates journalists a ton about people/accounts like these is that their platform is Twitter, and only Twitter. So as a result, they lean closer to influencers than they do actual journalists. And because of that, there's not really a journalistic standard or anything that they follow.

We'll see if more accounts like that pop up in MLS, but in general I kind of view the rise of these types of social media accounts across the board (and not just MLS) as a sign of the (unfortunate) waning power that journalism used to have in this day and age.
