Amazing meal at Lula Cafe

One of the greatest meals I have ever had. In my ranking of the three most experimental and unique restaurants I’ve gone to in Chicago, this ranks below Ever but above Smyth. For $180 with tax and tip, we got 4 entree’s, 2 desserts, 4 beers, and 2 espressos.

The Chickpea Frites were so good, perfectly fried and the sauce was insane. I audibly said “Oh my god” when I took my first bite if that gives an indication of how great it was.

The Baked Feta was incredible, especially spread on the delicious freshly baked bread that they gave us, with a little of the olive oil in the pan. Very rich, salty, and tasty.

The Lemon Foccacia was awesome. Really fluffy and a great crust, and a little lemon zest to each bite. The green tomato butter was very tasty, and I could have eaten a second little cup of it if they gave me some more bread to spread it on.

The Duck Breast was perfectly cooked, with a delicious crust on the outside from the cast iron. It was cooked in its own fat, and it was super rich, and juicy, and amazing with the sauce from the salad on the side that I believe was some form of cherries. So succulent, would rate it higher than the duck at Table, Donkey, and Stick which was a very high bar to get over.

The Fennel Pollen Cheesecake was great, super fluffy and creamy, and whatever the sauce was made out of was really tasty.

The star of the dessert show was the Spring Pea and Strawberry Napoleon. Whatever the pastry was made out of, it was so flakey and tasty and wonderful. I could have had 50 slices of it. It was so fresh and fruity and crunchy and sweet, just a great mixture of textures and flavors. One of the best desserts I’ve ever had!

All in all, I highly recommend checking this place out, from the food, to the service, to the great patio out front, this place is an 11/10.
