(I didn't mean for this post to turn into a long rant, but I just have a lot of bottled up emotion held against the Jehovah's Witnesses. Sorry if this just looks like a big wall of text)
No definitely not. I'm not religious anymore but I used to be a Jehovah's Witness for about the first 15 years of my life. It almost pains me to say it, but it's really a fucked up cult that can ruin the lives of the people that believe in it. The "elders" (that's what they actually call the priests and other clergymen, fucking "elders") are masters at brainwashing the church, and it really blows my mind how they get away with it.
I'll list some of the things that I think are really terrible about it:
They protect pedophiles They require two witnesses to attest to an accusation, otherwise they blow you off. So yep, you guessed it: if you get molested by someone in the church, they won't do anything about it whatsoever. Unless someone else was with you that can say they saw it happen, they will never do anything about people who make claims about molestation. If someone is assaulted, some elders will actually try and discourage them from speaking up about it, as it hurts the image of the congregation. This has already happened several times and The Watchtower organization has been taken to court over it.
You already know this one. If someone does something that the elders feel is too sinful, they can be "disfellowshipped". Anyone who is DF'd is not allowed to talk to or be talked to by anyone in the church. They convince you that it's for the safety of "the congregation", but it's really because anyone who gets DF'd is a free thinker and is seen as dangerous for that reason.
They not only convince the youth that it's unnecessary to go to college, but they actually brainwash everyone into thinking they should feel bad about it. Just like I said before, a lot of college students are intellectuals, or "free thinkers", and might discourage a Witness from continuing to go to church. Yet they tell the kids that it's actually because college is something of "the world" and it's not what Jehovah wants.
They make sure no kid in their organization ever gets to enjoy any birthday or holiday.
Their translation of the bible is riddled with inaccuracies yet they never acknowledge this, and never publicly announce who did the translation work (Probably because they're not actually educated, they're just someone in the church's pocket). Not only that, but I remember several times where they tried to show how other bibles are inaccurate because they're different from the New World Translation. Somehow a lot of people actually fall for this.
