Anyone in N.Y. City area need a new best friend?

Man, you know what pisses me off? It's the incredibly irresponsible and undeserving pet owners that overfeed the animals they "love so much." When you get a pet, you are taking on a lot of responsibility, and if for any reason it isn't in your capacity to adequately provide for it in a way that won't likely subject it to a significantly reduced lifespan, and all sorts of chronic pain throughout its life from arthritis/joint damage/early failure of various bodily functions, you shouldn't own the animal. Period. It's not fair to the creature that relies 100% on you to manage its diet. Failing to provide the most basic expected maintenance for your animal is straight up abuse, regardless of how you rationalize their physical suffering and objectively reduced quality of life as being somehow outweighed by how cute or majestic overweight animals look to you.

"Look how adorable my 25 pound kitty is!" makes me sick every time. It's literally no different than a parent feeding their toddler into obesity before they're capable of understanding how to properly manage their diet themselves and passing it off as some sort of positive trait. People can try to rationalize it however they want, but if your pet becomes obese under your care, that shows me conclusively that you willfully failed the most basic care you can possibly provide to your pet and that your "love" for it is strictly superficial.

The only exceptions to this is if you took in an animal that was already obese, or there's some kind of genetic disorder or disease at play, then you obviously aren't at fault. In every other situation, pet owners that allow their pet to become obese shouldn't have pets at all. And for fucks sake, if your cat looks fatter than it is because of its fur/breed obviously that doesn't matter, someone mentions their Maine Coon every time and how it only looks overweight. I don't give a shit unless the animal is actually overweight, so don't take offense unless yours actually is.
