Anything about augmented reality?

Yeah, I've seen Unreal users being all over VR.

AR isn't just about Microsoft and HoloLens. Magic Leap announced support for Unreal but hasn't given any more details. Unity 3D supports multiple current AR solutions. There seems to be market there.

I always get downvoted when I talk about the things I try and why I try them, but here we go: I'm programming for the web and from time to time have to work on some iPad apps. Saw the HoloLens demos and got interested. We made some simple AR projects at work for Junaio (which is made by Metaio and will stop working this December because the company got bought by Apple). I started to use C# a bit more and made a few programs with Visual Studio (being more of a Python and Linux server guy). Microsoft hold out with information until the Build 2015 developer conference. Still no SDK but they showed how to make HoloLens apps with Unity 3D. So I started to learn a bit of Unity. Followed 1 1/2 tutorials and made a simple game just for friends and co-workers. It looked ugly in the browser. The WebGL support isn't that good. And now there was an article about the bad WebGL support recently.

As long as there's no HoloLens it would be cool if I could apply the new game developing knowledge to the web. I remembered the Citadel demo which looked awesome. (And somehow vanished from the web.) But it was made with the Unreal Engine and only Unity would support the HoloLens.

After the Windows 10 release I realized that the success of the HoloLens isn't a save bet anymore. People are annoyed by privacy issues. Other HoloLens fans are annoyed by the small FOV (Field Of View, you don't see much of the holograms in front of you). Some articles even say that a consumer version could get delayed until 2020.

So, here I am. More interested in AR than VR. And searching for a technology which I could apply to the current work (web programming), too.

I will definitely give the Unreal Engine a try. I'm a bit fascinated by the blueprint tutorials. My C++ knowledge isn't especially good but at least I recognize "C++ for dummies" being an awful piece of crap.
