Apparently we don't need veterinarians

Ah mate, sorry to hear about your cat. I hope he makes it through, he's lucky to have a buddy like you.

I can understand your rage too. When my dad was dying, all our relatives converged on his hospital bed to chant decades of the rosary by candlelight - it was the creepiest thing I've ever witnessed. I felt like roaring "JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP, THIS ISN'T DOING ANYTHING" at the top of my voice, but I couldn't. At the end of the day, their hearts were in the right place and what they were doing was just an expression of how much they loved my dad, and me, and how much they wanted to help. They couldn't spontaneously develop a cure for brain tumours, but they could "guide his soul to heaven".

Just make it known to these people that you don't particularly believe in what they're doing (if they ask), but that you appreciate the sentiment and the intent. Pick your battles mate - you've got enough going on right now, you just concentrate on your fur-buddy and take the rest as an expression of other people caring about you.
