Gratitude as a non believer

Oh yea Sikh history is huge, the push is because a lot of Sikh history has been ignored and tbh Sikh history is a pivotal time in Indian history. It’s also important because of diaspora elements that are extremist (very small percentage). But it’s also important because see out in the west when you are brown you are seen as a Muslim (bigotry for this is a violent threat that is intolerant) or a Hindu (bigotry for this an idol worshipping idiot that is going to burn in hell fire). Plus a lot of academics in the west are trying to erase the atrocities of the Mughal empires and the Islamic favoritism that was pronounced into the indigenous societies. This is a huge reason we take history in our hands. We learn about the Atlantic slave trade as equally as the Arabic slave trade. And when it comes to India we make it clear that it’s not Muslims that are bad, the period is in the Indian heroes like Amber Malik; a slave that fought the Mughal empires and was a great ruler by proxy.

Tbh, growing up I never felt accepted in Canada. All of our cultural traditions like henna, clothes food etc were discouraged and looked down upon. Only in the recent 15 years or so has it been widely accepted and that is because the western whites are loving the tastes and the fashions. This IS a problem and that is why it’s important to know our culture and history in both its glory and it’s faults. It people like you and my children who will update and reform the progression of our societies and for that historical knowledge of our own contributions to the world is important, otherwise one is left feeling inferior, when the truth is we are all equal and all have contributed.

I can understand your burn out and it’s so important to do what you are doing; high is resting your brain from all propaganda and agendas and exploring people for who they are. The one thing I tell my children that I guess might be religious is “treat others how you want to be treated”, “believe what someone is showing you by their actions do not fall for ones words”, “your word is your bond, so be sure of it before you commit”.

I say at your age, live your life and test out your personal morals and values, we learn from our mistakes and best of all we grow everyday.
