ARE YOU HAPPY/SATISFIED WITH YOUR CAREER IN HEALTH IT?

Nope.

I quit in 2018 and never went back.

I may have posted elsewhere, the health IT people I worked with were some of the absolute worst I've ever dealt with in my career.

Working for a software vendor, I got to see a few hundred sites across the US.

Terrible attitudes, terrible funding, terrible leadership.

There's a few places that are the exception. One mid size hospital system in AZ has an AMAZING CIO and executive team. They recruit and retain excellent staff. Same for another large healthcare system in Nevada. There's a large university in NJ that's got great people and systems as well.

But, no. Not for me.

I haven't considered the pay factor until now - doing the math I'm earning more than double.

HOWEVER ... despite the fact I earn a hecken lot, and I get to work on some amazing projects, and I get to work with probably some of the best IT leaders hands down, I do not work for an industry most people have strong positive opinions towards. Contribution towards bettering the health of a nation through continuously improving informatics was a very meaningful experience. If it weren't sullied by hoards of garbage institutions, I'd still be pursuing that.
