Are humans naturally evil?

What is "good"? What is "evil"? They are human labels used to manufacture concrete sense in an entropic world. Shit happens. The existence of shit guarantees that shit will indeed occur to shit. Now, with the internet, we are more privy to the shit happening elsewhere than we were before so we see more "evil" everyday than ever before.

Saying we as a species good or evil across the board is kind of silly. We simply are. Could you describe an animal as evil? Snakes play dead to lure in prey (lie). Seagulls snatch my bag of Cheetos and fight over the contents (steal). Shark embryos fight in the womb without conditioning to do so (kill).

Perhaps our lifestyle encourages us to stand on the shoulders of our neighbors, but that is simply a means to becoming more personally comfortable within our current understanding of life. Is putting yourself before others evil? How can you care/provide for another person without first having the means to care/provide for yourself?

Of course I can't find them now, but there have been oodles of articles and studies (re)posted on this very website about near-dead languages that don't have the concept of "I," "non/pre-modernized" cultures in which stealing is as rare as chupacabra killings, and all sorts of stuff like that. Perhaps that is more of a reflection on the faults in our current mode of life than it is on our nature as a species.

I think it is safe to say that humans, in our current position, are negatively affecting the flora and fauna of this planet. We are negatively affecting the Earth herself. And undoubtedly we are negatively affecting many of our brothers and sisters across the globe.

To say we, as a species, are evil implies that there is something good. What would that be? Everything we do to each other occurs in nature on a smaller scale. Of course, one beaver isn't going to monopolize an entire forest for their own dam. One lion won't unleash genocide on a herd of gazelles. They don't have the means to do so. But we do.

We can be really fucked up to each other, true. We can also do incredible things together.
