I know I shouldn't be asking this seriously, but has the American government just gone legitimately insane?

Firing James Comey. That's... That's a pretty big mistake, right? Do they not see how this makes them look guilty? I know they don't care, but if any time could be seen as the start of a dictatorship, it's this. Nixon tried to pull the same shit and it got him only further into the shitty bed he'd made. But Trump has proven himself far beyond Nixon, in both corruption and lack of accountability. And he's gotten away with so much more. This Russian investigation was the only thing sticking to him, and it might be gone in a few days.

I'm an outsider. My opinion on Comey isn't very complex. I'm not a fan of the FBI or most of the US intelligence agencies. But disregarding the whole Clinton email thing and some other shit in his past I don't agree with, he was on top of this Russian thing and I had a certain amount of respect for him while watching the last couple of public hearings he was in.

He seemed to be very "country first" in his approach which I won't ever fault anyone for who works for their government in that capacity. I'd expect the same from every director of a government agency in any country. And honestly, it seems he held to that ideal far more than literally more than half of current Congress and the President himself who, while saying "America First", simply panders to one side of the aisle along with this new oligarchy he's brought in.

This just seems like... I don't know. I try not to be surprised. I do. But every time I see something like this, I think for a moment, "Nah, this can't possibly be true, can it?" And every single time I'm proven wrong.

Jesus, America, what the fuck is going on with you?
