I’m a high school English teacher, and I’ve had some students who read Braille. They can get pretty fast at it, but the general consensus is that Braille takes longer to read. As you can see in the video, it takes up a lot more space, and managing materials, turning pages, moving your arms like a typewriter, that slows it down.

What’s SUPER cool is that they also have this electronic Braille machine that produces the texture in metal prongs (for lack of a better word) and that helps speed a bit because arms and hands don’t have to move as much.

All of my students who read Braille had extra/extended time as part of their special education paper work.
