I think people have made some excellent comments on this so far and I’d like to share my experience as well. My father died after a long battle with cancer in 2015 and it hit me hard. I still have complicated grief over his death. Though I will admit that it has gotten easier over time and i’ve made peace with the fact that he’s no longer here but hopefully I see him again when my time comes. I like to believe this was because I had time to prepare for his passing and we gave him an amazing send off in the hospital during his final week with us. Champagne, charcuterie, candy etc. All the good stuff. Now I share this to say Beth like me had time to prepare herself for her own father’s passing and probably was able to grieve for him before actually died. With Jack it was a sudden death that the family wasn’t expecting. The scene with Rebecca and the doctor demonstrates this sudden shock extremely well. That’s my take on it.
