'We can’t keep living like this': COVID-19 state of emergency opens political divide

Much like the need for seatbelts or helmets or a myriad of other laws that are acceptable to most yet are still, law.

The old seat belts and common law argument. The usual go to line, when no one is arguing against any of that. When goverments can shut down any private business on a whim, lock people in an aprtment block, allow people only an hour a day out of their house, that is abuse of power.

If you are happy with the government extending a state of emergency with no votes and no resitting of parliament, then they can take whatever they want from you, whenever they want. You can live like that, but people with any common sennse won't.
