Changing careers to finance or consulting

Hey OP, I currently work in strategic business finance. Since you’re still in school, you may be able to bridge the gap between school and finance/strategic consulting by find a role at a consulting company that hires ChemEs for work in automation, process controls, O&G consulting, etc.

Working in this field gives you the cred to move to other consulting firms and if you get staffed on some projects outside your own specialty you will develop more transferable skills. While the Consulting > MBA > better Consulting/Finance route is pretty common, if you just start in consulting an MBA isn’t 100% required. While working, you can learn the basics of corporate finance and also securities/etc. on the side, work with your manager to get more exposure to financial modeling and consulting on projects like that, then move firms or industries.
