The thing is that within their concept of equity, racism and sexism are a-okay so long as they flow towards "oppressive" genders/races. Everything is about power relations between different identities in their worldview, so there's no difference between a progressive white male and a white male sporting a swastika armband, unless they're an "ally", in which case they've confessed to being inherently bigoted and offered themselves up as whipping boys to those using idpol to gain power for themselves.

You couldn't come up with a better way to toxify discourse on the left. Idpol is being pushed hard by the mainstream media because it is still 100% compatible with our current economic order. Leftists dip their toes in the pool of idpol because, on the surface, it's a no-brainer: of course racism and sexism are bad. Your opponents can be smeared as evil monsters for the mere act of not conforming to your ideology; a prospect that's simple and appealing.

Becoming the judge and jury over other people gives idpol advocates feelings of power that extreme wealth inequality has deprived them of. There will be so much infighting that few will notice how shitty and corrupt society has gotten.
