Christian seriously looking into Islam

I am a former convert. If you convert be very, very careful of whom you learn Islam from. Surround yourself with Muslims who practice their faith in love and humility as they live it out and avoid the over legalistic ones who cheerfully cry out haram without an ounce of compassion shown for their fellow Muslim and non-Muslim.

Do not divide the faith and avoid getting into sectarian arguments.

Avoid hadith battles and enjoy your salat. The importance of prayer cannot be expressed emough. Read stories of long-term converts and learn from them.

Keep the dietary rules to the best of your ability. Get rid of pork, alcohol, and other non-medical intoxicants. You will encounter some Muslims who will make eating so complicated that every meal for you will turn into a potential gateway for hell fire. This is why you must study, study and then study some more to determine if you are following Islam according to its moderate rules or are straining the knat but swallowing the fly. Islam was meant to be a joy and Mohammad a mercy to mankind. If someone is taking away your joy in finding Islam, make sure they are actually following Islam and not a cultural tradition. Treat them with love and do not divide the ummah. They are Muslim and you are Muslim and only God knows the correct view.

Ignore the hate from the secular world. It is best to live for something rather than being an aimless wonderer through life. If you are called to be a Muslim than be the best one you can be.

Hope some of this helps provide some perspective.
