CMV: In the U.S., convicted felons should not lose the right to vote, especially after they've served their sentence.

So I'm super late to this discussion, no one will probably read this but here goes. Here is what a real life felon thinks. I've being more open right now then I have been to anyone in the past ten years, and will probably delete this comment later because honestly I'm embarrassed of my past. A little history, I am a non violent felon, caught steeling more then $500 in value soon after I turned 18. I'm not asking anyone to feel sorry for me, but I did not have the greatest parents or upbringing. Boohoo right? Most people probably didn't. My family was extremely dysfunctional and I honestly didn't know right from wrong. It was just normal to me to steel and do dumb shit. Nearly 8 years after I moved out I finally figured out how to decide right from wrong as was tired of being in trouble with the law. I have married a beautiful wife and 3 incredibly awesome kids that I would give my life for in a second. I want nothing more then to help them do better at life and give them the shot I never had. We go to church. I try to instill values. We do hundreds of things as a family all the time. We go camping about once a month. We go to all the school events and are involved with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Buts it hard. At first after becoming a felon, I was bummed out I could never own a firearm again, or vote. It was quite frankly depressing. But now all I want is to be able to work and move up. Right now I work about 60 hours a week, but for shit pay. Because it's all I can get. I want so desperately to move up in life. College is not for me, but I would like to go to trade school to do something. But I start looking in to it and just give up. What's the point when every single company will reject you because of your background? I'm sure it's very few, but people can and do change. I am one of the few that have been reformed as they say. I am a contributor to society, not a burden on it anymore. I have gone on hundreds of interviews and it's the same thing every time. Why hire the felon when the next guy isn't? I've been trying for a few years to start my own business, but haven't gotten much to take off yet. But I have made the choices I did in life and must live them. I have decided my life probably won't accomplish much, I will be forever doomed to live in a crappy house and drive a crappy car that barely runs, but I will do all that I can in my limited power to help my kids make something of themselves.
