Its a joke in an entertainment medium about delivering jokes. In 0% of the time is a joke someone "making an argument" in any legitimate fashion. Maybe they really do believe that, maybe they do not. If someone makes a joke about how odd it is we adorn ourselves to impress others and make ourselves feel good, that doesn't mean they are complicit in all the little horrid things fashion and meta-self-percetion have going on.
