Courier runs down cyclist

but that doesn't mean that gun violence is non-existent because it isn't something I happen to be a part of.

But it isn't something your a part of because you don't hang around with gangs, engage in illegal behavior, live in a high-crime neighborhood, etc. Your behavior has allowed you to avoid getting shot, just like my behavior has helped me to avoid bike accidents.

And here's a blog I've found to counter your videos: http://ihatebicyclists.com/

Now, allow me to examine one of your videos to see if you did anything wrong or anything to piss off a driver. I'll start with the first one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ht3nrLtn7A&list=PLiEHeXKlZj2kbF2m9eBS_O992pTrPpyyi&index=1

  • So right off the bat I don't think you turned your head enough to see that van. You also should've signaled with your right arm to let him know you were going to switch from the outside of the road to the inside.

  • That guy was correct: if you're changing positions, you need to signal. I agree that the road looks shitty and not meant for cyclists, but this means that you have to be more careful.

  • Also, your yelling, and saying "This will be on Youtube later" does nothing to quell the situation, only escalates it. You could've easily lowered your voice and said "These roads don't have markings, so I didn't signal because I was going straight.

  • Then you proceed into the intersection and almost get hit again

  • Then you cut in front of two more cars. I mean you have a camera, you could easily have said "Hey, calm down, this isn't worth an assault charge. Let's get a pint."

  • Then you yell at him again instead of keeping calm and carrying on.

  • You also say you're going to call the police, instead of getting your phone out and actually doing so, which would've signaled to the driver that you're serious, and the phone call will be recorded by them.

  • The rear footage shows that the van slowed down, and was probably wondering which way you were going. At this point, he doesn't have his turn signal on either, and I can't tell if you signalled, but he said you didn't, and you said you didn't have to, so I think the onus is on you. Again, you're the one on the bike, he's in a 4 ton lorry.

  • There's also green bike lane paint that you weren't in.

  • Watching it again, it looks like you definitely should've signaled to switch to the middle part of the road where the hash marks are, because up ahead there's a green bike lane, which tells you to go 'round the roundabout the other way from what you did.

I hope you did submit this to the police, because they could tell you better than I can that you're in the wrong here.

And it looks like you find joy in posting these to Youtube. Literally everything about your behavior is only to escalate the situation instead of calm it down and avoid road rage. You give cyclists a bad name.

I'm going to post this on /r/bikecommuting and see what their thoughts are. And if it gets downvoted there, I think I'll make my own sub with blackjack, hookers, and safecycling. Maybe /r/safecycling.
