The creation of Spider-Man

He wasn’t even a loser, c’mon. He was facing real life problems outside the life of a superhero. The very core of his character was written to be relatable and grounded in a superhero world.

His best friend hated his alter ego, the love of his life was marrying another man, he could hardly pay his bills. He broke Aunt May’s heart by telling her the truth about Uncle Ben, she later forgave him and motivated him to become Spider-Man again. And this was all in ONE movie, it had all the moving parts for compelling drama, sensible character motivations, and grand-scale action scenes that still haven’t been topped in its genre. It’s still the biggest Spider-Man story we got onscreen (Spider-Man 3 had more villains and action, but it got a little bloated).

In comparison Homecoming felt very lightweight to me. Holland was constantly cracking jokes and giving you a fun time, but it distracted me from the stakes in the plot. Even the way the movie’s edited has this comedic urgency to it. It just feels like a B-tier Marvel movie on the vein of Ant-Man.

I still feel like they could do better with MCU Spidey, to me he just feels like Stark’s trust fund kid. But I guess MCU Peter is way past paying for an apartment and getting to class on time after fighting Thanos and coming back to life.

Just my 2 cents, I know this is a very unpopular opinion on this sub.
