Daily Discussion - Salt-Free Saturday!

I know this is more of a Lore Thursday type of comment (I was busy that day, sue me) but I'm a little dissapointed by just how little time in the Deep Stone Crypt raid is actually spent IN the Deep Stone Crypt.

Now don't get me wrong- I ain't salty about it. And frankly the Morningstar and its' 2 encounters more than make up for it. I was NOT expecting that, and those two fights are among my favourites in the franchise.

But yeah, the only real thing of note in the Crypt is Clarity Control, and the game has you just... pass by it entirely without comment. Like "Oh. Another statue. Huh. Anyways, here's this Fallen Exo". Maybe I went too far down the rabbit hole of Colllector's Edition lore hype and was setting myself up for dissapointment.

Really want to know more about Atraks-1 though. SIVA was one thing, but this is next-level nanotech. Have you ever actually died to the Replication debuff? Because if you use a sword or emote while infected, you'll see what it's doing. The debuff left behind when Atraks' copy is destroyed is- quite literally, self-replicating nanite infection. Leave the debuff too long and your Guardian just falls dead, spawning another Atraks ontop of you.

Meaning, yes, you get turned into another Atraks, every molecule broken down and repurposed until there's nothing of the original 'you' left anymore. Which is among the most morbid and profoundly fucked up ways to die, even by Destiny's impressive standards. That's genuine nightmare fuel right there.

I haven't found any lore that talks about this nanotech yet. If I had to guess, Clovis repurposed Vex technology to do it, since that's what Radiolaria does, replaces whatever it comes into contact with with more of itself. And the lost sector near BrayTech Exoscience confirms Clovis was running these kinds of experiments, turning people into Vex just to see what'd happen.

I shouldn't be thinking too hard about this, the implications are so... ugh.

But hey, I got my Descendant title this week. And Splinterer! Now that they've fixed the Birds-of-a-Feather Triumph, I can grab Warden later today too.
