Dan Hardy on UFC 208 Main Event Controversy

My ass it's not the fighters' responsibility to follow the rules.

Not at all what Dan said or suggested.

You're so locked in during a fight, crowd screaming and always moving, that it can be difficult to gauge the bell. Maybe it could be louder, maybe the referee steps in immediately as the round ends to be sure. But it's a legitimate topic.

Doesn't excuse a 2nd breaking of the rules when you've just been reminded of them and warned, doesn't explain the amateur hour bullshit of not deducting a point for a 2nd late hit. But I'm gonna hold the cage fighter's words on this above the keyboard fighter's.

Makes about as much sense to say it's not the fighters' responsibility to make sure they don't kick a downed opponent in the head.

You don't blame the ref or the judges if a fighter gouges out another fighter's eye, you blame the bloody fighter that did it

Two idiotic, completely unequal equivalencies. One second, hitting a person is extremely legal and is actually what WINS you the first fight. The next second it's illegal. That's why gouging out someone's eye purposefully would be an immediate DQ with an immediate lifelong ban from the sport. Late hits should be a fucking point deduction, by comparison.
